Strategic Advisor on Democratic Governance, Human Rights, and Political Reform
Luis Verdesoto is an Ecuadorian-Italian intellectual and political strategist with over four decades of regional and international experience in democratic governance, human rights, and institutional transformation. Trained in Philosophy, Sociology, and Political Science, he has served as presidential advisor, ambassador, minister, academic, and prolific author, with direct engagement in Ecuador, Bolivia, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, and the Dominican Republic.
He has held prominent roles including National Secretary for Anti-Corruption, Presidential Advisor on Governance, and Member of Ecuador’s National Electoral Council. He has led human rights advocacy platforms, directed constitutional reform processes, and contributed to substantive changes in decentralization, civic participation, and transparency. His consultancy work spans major multilateral organizations such as the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and bilateral agencies from the U.S. and Spain, bridging critical thinking with strategic action.
As an academic, he has taught at institutions including the Complutense University of Madrid, FLACSO, UMSA, and Universidad Andina, and holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. His published work includes over 40 books on democracy, citizen participation, territorial politics, and constitutional processes.
